Does this mean my laptop's battery is dead?

Edit:

the battery drains after like 10 minutes of use....and it's only 5 months old

I believe so. Don't think batteries are covered under warranties either, are they?

Why wouldn't they be? I bought a laptop from Dell and got a 3-year warranty with it. If the CDROM drive took a crap, I would expect them to replace it. Why not the battery?

batteries are usually only covered for 1yr, regardless of how long the system is covered

True.

Except for Best Buy's extended warranty. When I was window shopping there (drooling) over their laptops, they kept emphasizing that their 3 year extended warranty covers 1 battery per year unlike their competitors.
