Does this look right?

I bought the same model HD I own (Maxtor 80gb ata/100 5400 rpm) drive from a forum member at HardOCP because I like the model and price. Upon receiving it, I noticed it had what looks like, well, I don't know what it is. It almost looks what I can best put it as dry skin Anybody have an idea what it is?

Reason I ask is I plan to use the drive for backing up a lot of data and if that means it is damaged someway, I definately want to have it replaced.

Is the plastic weaker in that area or anything? I would run maxtors drive tests and see what happens. You can always RMA it too back to maxtor if it's under warranty. I'm guessing its just a manufacturing defect but it doesn't hurt to be concerned.
