Does this kind of SATA enclosure exist?

Basically want USB or Ethernet capable enclosure for SATA (or SATA2 drives).

Something that is dummy proof, and you basically load SATA drives into it like you would load a tape or floppy into a system.

1 disk at at time would be enough.

Thanks.

The showstopper here is that SATA connectors aren't made for being connected and disconnected often - good enough for a hot swap bay in a server storage rack, but certainly neither designed nor suitable for being swapped in and out on a daily basis like floppies or tapes.

Guys, the drives aren't for swapping in and out daily.

It's basically a once a month procedure for backups, and that particular drive will be then archived. So just want something noob friendly for this, thanks. (and no, these aren't server backups, hence the noob requirement).

I do what? Oh I see, I appear to have hit 'quote' instead of 'edit'. Sorry.

DukeN, so you'll have one plug/unplug cycles per month, and you'll still be bumping the "naked" drives around a lot. This is the worst thing you can do to a harddisk, and if it has a month's ONLY backup set on it, please don't think your data are safe.

You should do a non-noob thing and reconsider your plan.

I think you're right - just was trying to see if I could avoid the gouge fest known as HP's SATA storage enclosures ($300 for a 250G SATA hotswap drive).
