Video card that works in the Dell PowerEdge 800 (2 slots of 1x PCI-e) and dual DVI output for the Dell 30" LCD? Am I trying to tie a Kentucky Derby winner to a wagon?

Well servers arent typically equiped with video cards, and theres definitely no dual dci PCIe 1x cards. Sounds more like your trying a workstation conversion.

However this claims a max resolution of 2560x1600

I dont know if there are 2 dual links, but I doubt it very much, most like a 1 and 1. but if you can fit 2 of them you might be able to pull it off

Most of the x1k series has one dual-link DVI port. I can't be 100% sure that this particular card has it though.

Correct... it's (currently) a spare box in my home office. I intend to move to it as my primary workstation (replacing my very reliable, but longER-in-the-tooth 400SC).

This card looks like it might be just what I need. I hate to be an "asker," but I've spent literally hours trying to find what you managed to supply in your post only minutes after my OP. Thanks!

IIRC I think Matrox has a G550 that is PCI-E 1x and features dual DVI....I know I have seen the PCI-E 1x G550, I just can't remember if it has dual DVI or not...

I'm not sure if gx cards comply, but PCIe cards are supposed to work with however-many PCIe lanes are provided. If true, you could use this:

Also would need to determine if sufficient power is being provided to card.

Edit: might also be able to just carve a pass-through slot in the back of your PCIe(1X) connector and plug the PCIe(8/16x) card into it.

just for clarification, i think he needs a DUAL-LINK dvi card, not a dual-dvi card
