Does this exist: Tube Amp with HDMI inputs?

For under $1K, check out the Bob Latino amplifiers. These are clones of the old Dynaco units but use current generation components. They are available in both kit form and pre-assembled.

And? How would you compare the sound?

I'm comparing one of Onkyo's top-line receivers (TX-NR3008, retailing for $2100) to an $800 tube amp that has been rebuilt on a Baldwin organ chassis (with 4x new Electro-Harmonix 6CA7 power tubes, and old-production 2x 12AU7, 1x 6SN7, and 2x 5U4GB driver / rectifier tubes). The tube amp at least matches the performance of the Onkyo, but it's not a "night & day" difference. Rolling in better power and driver tubes will change things somewhat, of course.

This would be a horrible product.

Hdmi audio can be up to 8 channels so you would need 8 tube amps plus dac and other gadgetry to probably pass video.
