This crap. :disgust:

It totally screws up the formatting of the thread and is a blatant attempt to annoy others. (Unless of course these people have actually convinced themselves that it's funny!

I realize that OT has been and still is in rapid decline as far as quality and maturity go but come on, there have to be some limits as to what people can get away with.

I'll admit that I've quoted an emoticon before but always just the first occurrence, never a quote of a quote of a quote, etc.

Surely I'm not the only one that's tired of this. Am I?

Of course they will minendo and that's sad.

I was acutally going to start this thread in OT but it took about half a second to figure out where that would lead so I went with FI hoping it would will slip under the nef radar.

Perhaps I should have made a poll asking whether or not it should be a bannable offense.

Well there's nothing that I can do but the mods could.

As far as changing resolutions or just moving on goes, I shouldn't have to.

Whether or a not a thread is important is usually relative and if I decide I want to read one I shouldn't have to wade through all of that or horizontally scroll just to read it.

BTW, I'm at 1600x1200 and can't go any further anyway. :(

I think the mods need to go back one page and clean up the rest. Giving only 2 a vacation in a thread where quite a few did it is going to cause people to complain again.

I didn't even notice that it was still on Page 1 because I just immediately went to the end but you're right.

How hard is it for you to push the back button on your browser and forget about it?

While I don't read OT much, when I do run into that crap it annoys the $hit out of me, if only because there is NO good reason whatsoever to do it.
The only reasons I can think of are:
1: Annoy the $hit out of me(and obviously others as well)
2: PC+

Either reason sucks.

The whole reason you view a thread is to read and/or post in it.

You don't like bad drivers? How hard is it for you to just stay inside and forget about driving?

I find it funny beacuse it annoys people. Why do you guys get worked up such a stupid thread? Most of those threads which contain such "bannable offense"'s are stupid anyway.

Agreed. That's why I usually use this style of quoting. Wasted space on bulletin boards is annoying... if it were just a web site, sure, who cares. But when you have to go through dozens of pages with tons of useless filler it gets vexing.

I much prefer the old style of quoting that we had way back when!

Something like:

<< The post here
<< And if it was quoted >> >>

If i can remember correctly

I think you're right. I'm a fan of the old school styles of forums, like the old Rivazone.com. It's gone now though.

put me down for not liking it either. After about 5 quotes I can't keep track of who said what and it looks like a big jumbled mess.

The way I'd recommend going about this problem is a code change. If someone hits the "Quote" button to reply to a post, FuseTalk could scan the contents of the message quickly and run a counter to check how many times the [[/b]Q] [[/b]/Q] tags are used. If they're used, say, more than twice, strip the rest of the message (the "outside".)

Shouldn't be that difficult to implement at all, though it might be a noticeable hit to CPU time. Still, software-bound answers to problems like this are vastly superior to making a new human rule.

Yep, it's a code issue. Granted, you wouldn't normally assume a post would include 20 straight quotes, so you wouldn't build a guard or safety net into the code.

As annoying as it is, it's gotta be just about lowest on the totem pole of things to do. Look at the other stuff that messes with the formatting (read: the "ad" on the left... that thing is just oogly. Gimme a double-banner or something, just get rid of that waste ;) )

I'd say, first change quotes so that using (q) (/q) doesn't indent or add spaces. It just encompasses the line in those funky line graphics and bolds the name / etc. This change would single handedly remove the pyramid scheme. Now do what Sully suggested and make it so that it ignores any (q)'s in the post you are quoting, thus not allowing a quote inside a quote.

I've yet to see a case where someone needed to quote a person who quoted. If you need to refer to the text in 2 seperate quotes, then quote twice.

This is just a suggestion and it is either likely already in consideration or will never be. But I figured I would throw my ideas in.
