I have a linksys wireless card that i use to get online, and its the only way I know how to get online wirelessly. I know there are USB wireless cards but I would rather use the one I have (wireless card) and put it in the new computer i am getting which is..... THIS ONE---

http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=263304&&An=browse

i bought it at circuit city, picking it up tommorow, it has some wireless wi-fi think and im wondering if i can just use that with my linksys cable wireless connection but im not sure,

i also want to know what memory would be compatible with this computer, AND IF it has an open slot for memory or if i would have to take the 512mb out to put a gig in there or max it out at 2048 MB (thats 2 gigs isnt it?) (i think its 8 at the end, not sure, just know its 2000), so would like to know about that. If I have an open slot, please give me a suggestion on what to get, if i dont have an open slot, i think that makes it harder because its like starting with a new computer if i remeber correctly (lose all ure documents, etc.)

thanks let me know.

but will it be compatible with my linksys thing? Also, will it be as fast, etc?

i mean right now i have an instant wireless wireless g notebook adapter by linksys, 2.4 GHz (54g) card.

still does it have an open slot for one even if the built in one works?

As long as you aren't using 802.11A, the wireless inside the thing should be just fine.

It probably only has 2 memory slots. If it only has 2 slots (the max on most notebooks I've seen), both slots are full already. You'd have to take one out to put a new one in.

2048MB = 2.0GB, and that's the max memory in this thing.

thanks n0cmonkey, could u tell me how i could figure out if i am using a 802.11A? does that have to do with the router??

now lets say i run the computer for two months, then i feel like i need more memory, do i lose any information? i know when i changed memory in my imac i lost all my information, it cleared all my documents, and my installed software, and music, etc. Now what if they're are two slots and one has 512mb in it, that means the other one is open, if i put a 512 mb in their or bigger will that make me lose information as well or no? Also, what if there is 256 mb in one and 256 mb in the other, and i take one out and replace it with 512 mb or bigger will i keep SOME info or lose all of it, or keep all of it?

thanks

Yeah, it's the router that determines which standard you're using. 802.11A is in the 5ghz range, so you probably don't have to worry about that. ;)

That shouldn't happen, not even on a Mac. If you change your hard drive, you lose that informaiton, but not if you change memory.

Now what if they're are two slots and one has 512mb in it, that means the other one is open,

IIRC, the link you posted said there was 512MB (2 DIMMS), which means both slots are filled (if there are just two). Each DIMM is a stick of memory.

if i put a 512 mb in their or bigger will that make me lose information as well or no? Also, what if there is 256 mb in one and 256 mb in the other, and i take one out and replace it with 512 mb or bigger will i keep SOME info or lose all of it, or keep all of it?

You shouldn't lose any information. There appears to be 2 sticks of 256MB a piece. So if you take one out you should have 768MB, and not lose any data on the hard drive.

It's possible, but I wouldn't know for sure. Noteboks generally use SO-DIMMS, which are smaller than the memory in desktop machines. If the sticks are PC2700 SO-DIMMs, they might work.
