Does this annoy anyone else?

So I get my Sennheiser HD555's for xmas. I absolutely love them, the sound is so clear that I find myself turning around in my chair thinking the sounds I am hearing are coming from somewhere in the room.

However, it seems not all have yet been enlightened to good sound. I let my brother and some of my friends here them and their response is something similar to as follows:

"Those aren't that impressive"

"No? Are you being sarcastic"

"No they have like no bass"

Why is it that people always tend to just understand bass. I can point them to frequency response charts...tech specs...but no....they don't have overdriven bass so they must suck. Its odd that I could probably put the "bass" slider in windows all the way up and then they would like them.

Must have something to do with the current trend in car audio...

Anyone have similar experiences?

Aside from having no taste, they might have no high-frequency hearing.
I remember you were concerned about noise leakage ... how did they work out for you?

Well my roommate hasn't complained yet so I guess they are quiet enough 😉

Now if only battlefield 2 would have a speaker setting....all would be perfect...sigh

Do those HPs make the dishes in the cupboard rattle? 😉

I know your diliemna. My bro and Nephew are the "no such thing as too much Bass!" types. Listening to music with them is like getting pummeled with BOOM and having everything else drowned out. I like my music more rounded, more true to the intent of the musician/instruments and as anyone who has listened to music knows even Bass has Mids and Highs often directly associated to it that makes it sound Real. I'm not sure why they even bother buying Tweeters and Mids, just a waste of money. That said, the Subs my Bro and Nephew have built truly pound!! 😀

I have a cousin who "hates bass". He buys the tiniest little speakers for every car he gets and it sounds just like the crappy little speakers that come with a PC. I have actually seen him yank the stock speakers out and put in expensive little 4" or 2x4 speakers because there wasn't enough "high end" and they had "too much" bass! Yes, my cousin is insane...

When his oldest kid went off to college, my cousin gave him their Jeep. He ran out and got a new MP3 HU, and 4 decent speakers and a sub. My cousing went nuts when he found out that his kid liked bass. He was way more upset about that than the kid blowing his cash.

Insane indeed.

Most open air headphones have too little bass for me, I have a set of Sennheiser 540's (I think that's the model number, and they sound ok, but I have a pair of Koss closed ear headphones I bought a long time ago, and much prefer them, as long as I can stand to wear them. They sound great.

I find excessive bass really annoying.

I have sennheiser HD280's

they have okay bass.

but, I hate excessive car bass.

It's well known that typical younger people are bassheads.
That's why logitech speakers are so popular here 😉

lol - my Z560s have the bass adjustment all the way down, and the Winamp EQ cuts it slightly more.. 😛
