The worst case of cheating AI has to be in the NHL series from EA sports though. On the highest difficulty setting, the computer AI will play downright horribly, but then for a magical 15 seconds or so the computer will waltz all around the ice right until they score a goal. It's blatantly obvious, I know now when the computer will score a goal because instantaneously the game makes a 180. Before whereas I could check a player, suddenly they'll morph through the check, complete a 5 way tic-tac-toe pass across the zone and then a one-timer where the goalie won't even move. This is why I refuse to play against the AI anymore in NHL. And if I do, I will crank goalie boost all the way up just to counter-attack these blatant skill increases and center ice slapshot goals. It's horrible. NHL games are great against other players, but against the AI it's a horrible experience.

I spent quite a few hours customizing and experimenting in FIFA 2002 to make the game more realistic, since some crappy players are rated high and some very good ones are rated low. It is still not realistic enough since I win 99% of the matches in Professional mode, but I don't like to play in World Class mode since I get pissed at the computers doing some very strange moves, like those weird slide-tackle shots that are nearly impossible to block.

FIFA 2003 changed around a lot to make things more realistic, but I don't enjoy it as much as FIFA 2002. So I didn't buy 2003 and just play 2002 with players of my favourite teams traded so that they reflect this year's squads.

Like I said, I like to vary my play calling. There's no way I would call that many running plays in a row. Maybe four or five times in a row at the most.

If you're reading the defense correctly, then it wouldn't matter what the computer does.

I like to send a receiver in motion to see if they're in man or zone coverage. Based on that, if I've called the right play, then I know what my route progression is going to be. If the computer has me at a disadvantage, then I'll call an audible to compensate, or call a time out depending on the down situation.

Even if the computer does "cheat", what's to keep you from adapting? Nothing.

Besides, if you're running the ball on every down and gaining eight yards each time, you should probably increase the game's difficulty level. And if the difficulty level is all the way up, and you're still gaining that much yardage, then I would find myself another game to play.

I'm not saying I play like that. Just trying to point out a way for you to notice it.

I play with the difficultly all the way up. That is also why I try to keep their offense off the field. I am good at defense but I am too aggressive so I either hold them easily or they score easily.

In NCAA 2003 I can run the ball easily. I usually get between 3-15 yards per play depends on what defense they call and the team(fast LB=BAD for me). I am most successful with a QB sprint play in shotgun when the defense is 3-4/4-3/Dime/nickel, I can hit a run for like 30 yards sometimes. Of course I get hit for a loss sometimes when blocking breaks down. The only thing that kills me is fumbling but it would be the same thing if I passed more. I have zero INTs for the season but enough fumbles for my taste.

In Madden 2003 I can't run the ball as much because I don't have as many of the running plays I like. I love off tackle running, the option, and qb draw/sweeps. I don't like RB sweeps simply because it tends to have blocking breakdowns which lead to loses on the play.

I have no problems adapting to what defense they call. I actually have no problem regardless of what they call. I just don't like the fact that it is the cheap way to create AI.

I started playing Sega NFL 2k3 and I haven't gotten good in that game yet. I haven't adjusted to the play calling and running in the game. Passing in NFL 2k3 has been a disaster for me.

Another thing.....Everytime I try for a FG fake/pass for 2 points THEY KNOW IT! They line up for a pass while the kicker comes onto the field. That's just crazy.

yeah that's the most obvious way of telling that the computer knows ur plays. U can test this quite easily. Say its fourth and 10, no real NFL team would ever attempt a fake punt on fourth and long. However, if you select punt fake, the computer lines up accordingly. If you select punt on 1st and 10, the computer will line up in the punt return formation, however if you select punt fake on 1st and 10, the computer knows your not really punting

the thing that annoys me about football games are that the computer never runs enough. Especially in madden, where every reciever is > then Jerry Rice in his prime. Yes, the computer "cheats", but i've gone 40-40 before with my quarterback. Wait for the open man, make the smart play, read their defense, dont' force it, just like real quarterbacks do. Unfortunately for me, that's the only time i'll be directing a high powered offense to the end zone :(

I'm hooked on Madden 2003 for the PS2 for the time being, and I can partially agree with you.

On the other hand, the reason that the computer passes so much on me is because my D-Line usually stops any runs up the middle for minimal gain or loss of yardage. If they try to run a sweep, since I prefer to control the FS position, I keep an eye out for that and can stop that most times as well. And since the computer can't run well on me, then they have no choice but to pass.

At the end of the season, my defense is ranked first in defending against the run, and near last for pass defense.

You play just like me! Except I switch off between the FS and LOLB/ROLB (depending on which is better and formation) and I usually always have the best run defense and the worst pass defense..

yeah, i just bought NBA2K3 for Xbox and i decided to start a season, and had the AI turned up to All Star. the CPU creamed me, and like you said they made every shot, and everytime i looked at another player, it was a fvcking foul.

like you said Re-god-damn-diculous

The defense dose know your plays, what I do is use audibles to take advantage of what they think your going to do. If you set up in I-form and switch from a run to a pass in the exact same formation and just keep switching, you'll eventually see a motion in the defense. 3-4 D is simply the best in Madden though, you have 3 free cover people no matter what, and if the running back or any of the tight ends block you have up to 5 free guys, three of which can slide through holes in the line with ease and catch the QB in no time. If you want the offense to run more, just increase game time to 7 minutes, if the back is decent they run plenty, especially in all madden mode.
