Does this adapter exist?

You know the pins on newer motherboards that allow you to connect the front firewire ports of your case directly to the motherboard. Does anyone know what to do if your motherboard doesn't have them? I was going to buy a firewire add on card, but they all seem to have the 6pin port that you plug into. Is there a way to convert the 9pins for the motherboard firewire into the 6 pin port?
