Does thermal paste expire?

I have a bunch of paste from when I first set up my Intel 2.4c @ 3.4ghz. It's been about a year and a half since I last used any of this stuff, and I was wondering if it was still Okay to use on my new processor.

As a side question, which is the best? I completely forgot...I think it's Silver < Ceraminque < Shin Etsu, but I'm, not sure anymore 🙁

Just look at it and use your judgement. If it doesn't look right, don't use it. 😛
I've actually used some TIM lying around in the store. (Unbranded white stuff) Don't know how old it is, but looks old.
Still usable though. (Better than nothing.)

Arctic Silver and others will separate on standing for a lengthy period. Need to stir it up well but gently (so as not to get bubbles) with a very clean tool (plastic swizzle stick, etc) prior to use. I don't think there is any expiration date on it.

.bh.

Ceraminque is white and should not seperate...The Artic Silver 5 will seperate but will still be usable.

You can mix it back together as per Zepper's instructions or just use the silver paste and not the oil looking part.

I know that generic white thermal grease will dry out eventually, so it's best to keep it somewhat sealed, but that's probably on the order of a few years at least. Have no idea about AS's "polysynthetic compounds".
