Does there exist a Microsoft Surface-like Tablet / Laptop hybrid?

I know there are a bunch of 2 in 1 convertibles, but is there anything with a fully-detachable screen unit along these lines:

- the ~13" screen unit can be used by itself as a tablet with really good battery life and can support active pens like Wacom

- the screen unit can be attached to a really thin keyboard case like the Microsoft Surface for optimum portability

- the screen unit can be docked to a bigger keyboard unit that houses a more powerful GPU and battery for more serious work and/or gaming

There's a limited number of interface options (Thunderbolt) with enough bandwidth to make an external GPU worthwhile. Those are generally only found on higher end devices. Your post is basically saying you want a Surface but it's not clear why you don't just get a Surface.

I want to get away from Surfaces for the single fact that they have zero repairability. I have a Surface and it took a small slip, got a bit of a crack in the glass on the bezel, and now half the entire screen no longer responds to touch and the cost of the repair is several hundred dollars.

That's pretty common with tablet form factor devices. My HP Pavilion x2 might have been slightly better on the repairability front, but no Thunderbolt there.

Other than the GPU part (a thunderbolt external housing might work), a thinkpad x1 tablet or HP pro x2 would meet the need. I love my thinkpad with an m7 and 8 GB RAM
