They're rather silly products, for the following reasons:

1.) They only work with certain sony units. (So you're out of luck)

2.) For all the advertising, they're just simple USB sound cards. They don't actually communicate with the player at all - they're just outputting regular audio. Yes, the DG1 has an TOSLINK optical line-out - perhaps useful if you haven't got an optical line out on you sound card - but all the (AN1) does is output analouge audio to a standard 3.5mm jack plug. You'd be better off plugging a $1.99 3.5mm - 3.5mm audio lead into the 'line out' of your sound card.

3.) If you have a SB Live! Value you can get the Hoontech digital daughter board for less than the price of the DG1, and that has Toslink In AND Out. Any optical connection to your MD will sync tracks and insert breaks. Alternately, spend the cash on a decent CD Walkman with an optical out like the lovely Sony D-EJ01 20th Anniversary Walkman. It's about 15mm think and only marginally bigger in radius than the CD's it plays. Oh, and it's slot loading too ...

I noticed at work that the highest-end Sony portable MD player we sell includes that Xitel thing. That's the part customers usually end up jacking when returning it. LOL!

well i have a SQ2500 installed and a SBlive sittin in the basement with a daughter card, the problem I have with the 3.5mm jack is that they dont catch the end of tracks very well and i have to go through them manually later to seperate them....

If you've got an SB Live! and daughter board, you should have no problems recording perfectly synced CD's. Any analouge output, including the one on the AN1, will give you track seperation problems - the AN1 just tries to get around this by having the software pause the cd between tracks, meaning that more often than not you end up with extra 2 second blank tracks between songs.

Seriously though, you'd be better off with an optical-out CD player.
