Does the Volcano 7/9 hs fit on ecs k7s5a?

I'm moving into a dorm with no a/c in a couple weeks, thinking about getting a volcano 9 and replacing my stock hsf. I don't overclock, I'm just looking for a better cooling solution and the volcano 9 seemed like a good deal. I run about 48 celcius full load on my 1800+ now in my basement, so I thought I'd be better safe than sorry.

I don't know what revision of the k7s5a I have, I don't know if that matters, but I want to know if the heatsink will fit on it. The volcano 9 has the same hs as the 7 if I'm reading right, so anybody know if I'll run into any problems?

Thanks a lot ahead of time.

Maybe you can extrapolate from various sources and the measurements from Plycon's webpage.

The recent revisions of K7S5A feature bigger caps here and there, and Alpha says their 8045 won't fit. It measures (uniformly from what I gather) 80mmx80mm(WxL).

The giant Thermalright AX-7 thread at amdmb had a recent response to my query that the AX-7 will fit on the most recent revision.
The AX-7 measures 77mmx77mm(WxL) at the base, and the rest topped with a fan at 80mmx80mm(LxW).

The Volcano 7 is listed as 70mmx72mm(WxL), again uniformly as far as I can tell.

On paper, I would say the Volcano 7 would fit. I don't know about the Volcano 9.

thanks for the input Vinny. I'll look again to make sure the volcano 9 uses the volcano 7 hs and then I think I'll go ahead and get it.

I believe the Vol 7 & 9 have the same base, just different colors. The difference is the temp controlled variable fan on the 9. The 7+ is actuall a better hsf (if uses a 70mm fan and the hs is all copper with 36 fins), but does not have the temp controlled variable fan (it has a three speed switch that you must open up the case to change the speed).

Just took a walk with my gf and we stopped by the local computer shop which sells both the volcano 7 and the k7s5a and the guy that worked there said that as far as he knew, they worked together. They were selling the volcano 7 for $28 plus tax though heh. Naturally I buy nothing there, just come in to annoy them occationally. Oh wait, I did buy my logitech cordless freedom from them for a decent price.

So, I guess I'm going for the volcano 9 then, thanks for the help guys. And if it doesn't fit, there's always the dremel...

Thanks for the final confirmation movinslow, I just ordered the volcano 9 and came back to check if I had any more replies and saw yours. I'm glad to hear that it fits. Looks like I didn't waste that $30.
