Does the US post office even check to see if the stamp is real?

It looks so easy to duplicate and for businesses that send out alot of mail how can stamps look so easy to just copy and cut with a modified scissor?

Now that's when you know stamp prices are getting expensive, people are counterfeiting them. Think of how much more they'll cost when they require security measures.

Err, most big businesses don't exactly have someone that affixes stamps to every letter they send out...

If you're talking about print out pre-paid stamp marks, then there's a special pattern on the stamp that IDs each stamp. They have machines that verify the ID.

What I want to know is how they have enough people to read the address on every piece of mail. If machines do it, how is that possible?

They don't read the entire addy, they sort by the zip code and group them into regions.

OCR is extremely accurate, I'd bet most people here have no idea. The Unisys document processors are like 95% accurate at reading check amounts on personal/buisiness checks. and they aren't as efficient as Pitney Bowes equipment.
