I know it's not 5.1 because those cards all have those specific specs and I assume this card supports it but I want to know for sure...

anyone?

Mine doesn't. It supports stero front chan. and a mixed back chan. So it has 3 diff sound chans. Is this 3.1? hehe

ok. Just didn't want to waste my money on 4.1 speakers and not have the back two work...

I can't find anything on the creative site about this. Anyone know about the specs? Is it just a pretend 4.1(or 3.1 if you wanted to call it that)?

I'm not the voice of authority here, but I have the 5.1 sound card. It gives surround soud to the 4 satellite speakers AND the centre speaker. The .1 stands for the sub-woofer. The Soundblaster live, from the Creative site, says "Sound Blaster Live! Value produces surround sound audio on your PC with built-in support for two or four analog speakers." So my thinking is it gives support to the 4 satellites and the woofer. Does that make it 4.1? Probably. I'm pretty sure there is no 3.1. Surround sound by definition would mean that each speaker can handle seperate input. But hey, that's just my guess.

yup, 4 channel surround sound (but if you have a 4.1 speaker system, they all work the same). The sub gets voice from the crossover from the front channel--effectively 4.1

Yes it's 4.0

Most 4.1 speakers (4 sats and a sub) have 4.0 inputs (no separate sub channel) and filter out the Low Freq. internally.
