Does the sound insulation u can buy for ur case really significantly reduce noise?

Ive got a case with 6 fans and a 92mm tornado on my processor so im looking for a way to bring down the noise, the case fans dont make the noise really either its the 92mm tornado will putting that insulation stuff in help me and if it will is it gonna hurt ym temps?
 
It will help the noise but it will also raise your temperatures. I'm not sure how much though. You can get some noise insulation from McMaster-Carr. Search for the Melamine foam. It should be $2.95 for a 24"x24" tile. That stuff is supposed to work better than Dynamat or Akasa Paxmate.
 
I bought some sound absorbing foam from CompUSA for $20, I think it's an Akasa clone. I installed it in my previous case and it deaden the sound quite a bit. Of course, I did lay it over some sheets of Dynamat too, but either way I was impressed by the results. Try Jarsoffart's recommendation, but if you can't find any of the foam that was mentioned drop by CompUSA.

Regarding the heat issue, I noticed a 2 to 5 degree Centigrade increase in my case's temperature, not too much IMO.
 
the pitiful amount generally given by those kits wont'.. find a professional distributor of accoustic form, which gets used in buildings etc and buy part of a roll, costs less then those overpriced kits. ihe online store i used before is probably gone now so u'll have to search😛 as for the effectiveness of foam... i'm not so sure about that. i t takes a lot of foam to muffle a decent amount of noise. i used 1" skinned accoustic foam all over the inside of one of my cases, yes it raised temps. i had to use a damn lot.


i've found a better solution is to just not make a lot of noise in the first place. my 5 case fans are running really slow.

you with your tornados... foams not gonna do much for those.
 
question is.. why do you need a tornado? excessive cooling wastes power and creates noise.

get a fanspeed controller. i use vantec nxp201, they work great. you can put multiple fans on a channel to boot.
 
the reason i need a tornado is i run 2.06 volts to my cpu and the 55c i get with a panaflo fan at idle is too high for me, with my 92mm tornado i get 43c idle 50c load which IMO is worth the noise, if i could afford water id get that but i cant so looks like 92mm tornado and noise for em
 
I've used Dynamat before and it does dampen the sound.

And the temperature raising point is valid too.

Unfortunately, when I used Dynmat for the sides of my case, it started sliding off (perhaps because of the heat).

I really don't think it's worth it in the end.

its not too high for your cpu. its all in your head 🙂
