Howdy, quick question

Is the IDE-looking cable that connects my livedrive to my sblive! platinum a STANDARD IDE cable? Or is it proprietary?

I ask because i plan on rounding my IDE cables later today, but am worried that if i mess up my livedrive cable i will be forced to order one from creative as opposed to picking up a normal cable locally.

Thanks!

I have no experience, but I would say that it is proprietary, and you should get one with your sblive! platinum.

Actually, I believe it's just a standard 40 pin IDE cable. You could always just change it out with another cable and see if it still works.

I wouldn't do that unless you want to smoke your Live! - I have seen reports somewhere (big help) that an IDE cable will work with some minor modifications. I've also read of people hooking up a standard IDE cable and frying their Live!.

I've read this in the Creative newsgroups. It is proprietary and can smoke your drive if you use a standard 40 pin.

This was according to a creative tech..so I'd go by that on this one.

hrmm.. i used a standard ide cable to hook up my live! and a hoontech card... tho, dunno bout the livedrive. I don't see how it could be proprietary... 40 wires is 40 wires is 40 wires... it doesn't have a little nic in it (ala ata100 only cables) does it? could ppl who fried it just reversed the cable or something?
