does the registry move with roaming profiles?

when i reinstall xp on systems, i've noticed they are rather quick, until after i connect them to the domain. i'm guessing this has something to do with the bloated registry file? the profile i have is very lean. i save all my documents and other files on a shared drive.

if this has anything to do with the registry, is there a way to prevent the registry from moving from system to system?

You are having a similar problem that I was having as well, where the logon to the machine locally is pretty quick, but when you go to login to the domain, it takes a long time.

What i've found it has to do with the dns settings on the local machine and what I did is for the dns server settings on the local machine for the primary dns server to be my windows server/ad server/dns server and my secondary dns to be my router. Once I did that, my logins speed up considerably

I should mention, Im not using roaming profiles, so it could be tied to that as well. but the registry settings that are transfered through roaming profiles are not that big so it should not affect login speed

no, it's not the logon time that i'm having an issue with.

it's the system performance after i join the domain. fresh systems load apps very very quickly, but after they are joined to the domain, any load, or close of an application takes ages. they system becomes extremely sluggish.

could the registry have information that slows the system down?

if not the registry, anyone have any ideas what it is?

i've checked for viruses, trojans, spyware, and any other type of malware.

check for yourself.

The portion of the registry associated with your profile is User.dat

Unless the users' portion of the registry is very large I doubt this is the case. How is the app speed for domain users who do not have roaming profiles? How is the app speed for local users after joining to the domain?
