Does the PSU vent air for the case? or just for itself?

another question, really dumb but just making sure before i do some case mods. if the power supply has 2 fans on it, one on the back, and one on the bottom (facing the cpu), does the one on bottom suck air in and the one on back blow out? i assume this is right but just making sure. anything to pull air away from the cpu area would be good.

eLiu,

It vents air for the powersupply and also the case. It has to have some kind of intake in order for the exhaust to work and just happens that the case needs an exhaust path too. If the PSU didnt suck up the case air the temp in the case would rise unless there was another fan blowing out.

Bruno,

Both fans should be blowing up and out of the case. The one on the bottem of the PSU Up and the back one out.

Ideally the power supply fan(s) should be oriented to blow air out of the case. My generic PS had the fan blowing into the case so I just took it off and flipped it over so that it blows heated air out of the case. I'm not sure which direction other PS's generally vent but you should be able to check the airflow direction pretty easily w/ your hand or by holding something flimsy in front of the fan(s) (just don't let it get sucked into the fan ;)). Happy venting.
