Um... what? The upscaling on my PS3 60gb is a fair bit better than my 360. I've done comparison testing on the same TV with the same DVD, even.

I don't know how it compares to 360 because I've never watched a DVD on the 360 but it is horrible compared to my Pioneer. I unplugged it and put it away when I first got the PS3 but I quickly pulled it out and hooked it back up.

Most reviews have said the PS3 upscaling is great, and that's been my experience over HDMI to a 50" 1080p Samsung DLP TV.

360 upscaling on my Elite over HDMI looks good too, but certainly not any better than the PS3.

It sounds like viivo and bl4ckfl4g have cabling or settings issues with their PS3s.

It only upscales them if you have it hooked up vid HDMI. Overall quality of it is quite good, far better then the $50 WalMart style DVD players, but not up to the level of high end DVD/BRD players.

Both my 360 and PS3 are connected via HDMI. On the PS3, there's more artifacts/pixelation when there's a lot of action on-screen whereas the 360 looks much smoother.

What mode are you using for upscaling? Asking mainly as that sounds odd, things getting a bit soft seems to be where the PS3 has issues compared to the better upscalers, noise I have never heard of there being an issue.

My ps3 is connected via hdmi and it plays dvd's fine. I'd say they look better than my old dvd player, but I bought the PS3 with my HDTV so of course it looks better than the old 46" crt from the early 90's :p

I have it hooked up HDMI. I'm not saying it looks horrible overall. I'm just saying it looks bad compared to my Pioneer but it was one of the most reccomended players on avs for upscaling.

My PS3 is hooked up to a 50" Panasonic Plasma and up-scaled DVDs look very good with no artifacts. Only thing I tend to notice is extra fuzziness around static text, but I can usually pic that out in 480p anyway on smaller screens.

PS3 upscales better than the 360, thats a guarantee. Your settings are messed up somewhere.

Same here. DVDs look fine. I think it depends a lot on your settings.

Try taking a look at this guide for setting up the PS3 for optimal HD movie viewing.

And yes, you absolutely must use HDMI to upscale on the PS3, or and other upconverting player for that matter. This is a restriction put in place by HDCP.

My PS3 upscales via HDMI to my 1080P Samsung LN46A650 and looks quite good, so good that I don't feel compelled to watch bluray movies all the time. (some bluray movies are so-so and some look really good, so a well upscaled DVD looks nearly as good as a so-so bluray.

That guide doesn't cover the filters you can apply while watching a move (ex: noise reduction)...
