Does the PCI-Express have any effect on overclocking ??

I had the ECS Nforce3 with the Athlon 3000+(Frys special) and I was able to overclock it to 2.5(10x250) with ease. It stopped there because the board only goes up to 250mhz.

So I got another board , a Biostar based on the Nforce4 4x and it would only go up to 225 stable.
Same setting and everything.
It won't even boot into Windows at 235.
I can't figure whats wrong it it cause its not the chip.
Is it the board ??

I know some people who has the ECS Nforce4(same chipset) are able to OC the 3000+ just as far.

Only difference is one board uses AGP and the other uses PCI-Express.

There's no guarantee any particular board or model will be able to hit any specific OC. There are way to many variables, we don't know if one board undervolts or overvolts, etc.

With that said, did you try adjusting voltages? Also what LDT settings are you running? What PSU do you have?

Same everything.
Its just hard to believe that the same CPU can go to 2.5 easily while it can only go to 2.25 on another board.
