does the nforce2 consistently run 200 mhz fsb?

Assuming you have ram to match. I have that epox nforce2 board. Trying to decide whether or not to get 200 mhz ram.

not sure how consistently, but probably a decent chance. the epox board is known to have some probs running over 200 fsb for some people because the chipset voltage is not up to par (vdd). apparently people are doing a voltage mod to get their vdd a little higher (from 1.56-58 to 1.77 and higher) in order to run higher than 200fsb. people are running into screen flashes and flickers without the mod. i personally have the screen flashes at anything 194-5 fsb and up. i'm thinking about doing the mod myself. good luck.

My 8RDA+ runs my 2400+ @ 2.2ghz, 200mhz FSB quite easily with a 512mb stick of Corsair PC3200C2. The Asus and the Epox are the most likely to reach 200mhz FSB, while the other Nforce2 boards are more of a toss up.

I am hoping to have similar success with the new 2100+ Tbred B I ordered, along with a second 8RDA+ and one of the new Corsair matched pairs of PC3200..

:)

From my understanding, the Asus has the Vdd adjustment in the bios, and people are reporting it has no effect on overclockability. I think the main reason some people have trouble is more related to insufficient northbridge cooling than the Vdd level...:)

I have one of the first 1.0's from the first batch that hit retailers. From what has been said by "Epox Tech" at the AOA forums, the only difference between the 1.0's and the 1.1's is the PCB silkscreening...they are physically the same. :)

Good point... I am using the 1.1 512mb stick of Corsair PC3200 C2 with the black heatspreader. It is running 4-2-2 CL 2.0 timings @ 200mhz. :)

I haven't used any personally, but it looks ok. Check out Googlegear.com for excellent prices on DDR. If you can afford it, check out the new Corsair twin packs that have been tested specifically for dual channel motherboards like the Nforce2 and Granite Bay. A bit pricey, but excellent stuff.

:)

Edit:

You also might want to check this memory out. It's the same stuff that is in my 512mb stick now. It's rated for 6-3-3, CL2 timings @ 200mhz. Two of those would run you about $166 with free 2nd day Fedex...not bad at all for 512mb of excellent memory. :)

I want a 1 gig of RAM that'll do 200mhz with the fastest timings, but I don't wanna spend $400. :( I'd spend $300 in a heartbeat though :D

Why not try to snag two of the regular PC3200C2's 512mb sticks...I'm sure they would do it. At ~$160 each, it would be just over $300. :)

do you have any additional cooling on your nb? i'm not sure about the asus, but many people with the epoxes are reporting higher fsb's after doing the vdd mod.

The Vantec's are kinda cheesy, and they will be fairly loud with the fan. The Zalman I linked is a very large HS, and has much much more surface area than the Vantec pieces do. They also have a new one that is pretty much the same, just blue..

Check it out here.

But I want Twinz :D

I'll probably wait a bit before deciding. I may just get a 512MB stick of PC2700 Samsung original for ~$120 to get my 1 gigs using all 3 banks and keeping the dual-bank intact (not like it matters all that much hehe). I'll still have a low FSB though :(

Anyways, no active cooling on the NB? I bought a Crystal Orb for my NB, should be here tomorrow. I'm planning on moving the heatsink on my NB now to my MCP-T. I've used a Blorb on a few mobos in the past and didn't think they were too noisy, so hopefully the COrb isn't too bad either.....I was considering those Zalman's though, but I figured it wouldn't be much of an improvement over the stock heatsink on the Asus.

Well, when you are only running a 21CFM Panaflo on your CPU and only one case fan, another 21CFM Panaflo, those little sub 50mm fans are loud little buggers. I not only have passive cooling on my NB, but I also have it on my overclocked 8500. :)
