Does anyone else think the news media goes too far in releasing information?
2 points-

Tuesday they decide to tell where air force one has been, and is heading. They tell the news media to not use phones in flight, but as soon as they get on the ground, the media calls up and tells everyone where they are. It aint coincidence that they scrambled AF1 right after it hit the national news that it was in Louisiana. As a side note, then they act like the president is a coward (IMO) for talking so long to return to Washington. Do they not realize that this is the kind of situation that AF1 is built to handle, the pres can run the entire country and make war from AF1. I wouldn't have thought anything less of him evenif he was still airborne now.

Now when they are discussing the almost certain impending attacks on Bin Laden, they tell every detail that they can find out about the plans. Why dont we just paint a big floursecent shoot me sign on all of our aircraft?

I am all for freedom of speech, but in cases like this National Security comes first.

The media NEVER gives out enough information, or should I say relevant information that is not biased by the corporate and government infrastructure.

In an attempt to scoop a story (and sell time or print) SOME reporters have no ethics--just like some people you run into now and then; you know, "I want for me, f*ck you".

The media never has more information then what they are given. If they are allowed to say where they are, then they say it. I'm sure if they weren't allowed to devulge that information the reporter and news organization responsible for releasing that information would be brought up on some kind of charges...

yup I think so. There was something on the news on Tuesday about how they were asking a question of whether the media gives out too much info and opens up US procedures too much and stuff to the general public (and thereby revealing info to terrorists)

Its more of a problem that too many peeps with confidential or secret information is leaking it to the press to begin with.. this can lead to a total loss of investigative power. These peeps need to shut the hell up and let news come out when its been cleared for the press.

bah, all this information is given to them by "confidential sources" who think that its best for the media and the people to know... BS!! there are some things that are better kept quiet. maybe after bin laden has been bombed to the ground, they can sit down one fine day and talk about how it was done, but until then, atleast they could help the country maintain operational secrecy.

did you know that CNN is the best source of information worldwide? a let of new goes through the CNN conduit and so it is usually more preferred worldwide by intelligence operators and gatherers except for actual ground sources...

I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the news. A terrorist could just watch the news to target the President -- or get ideas of how to strike.

A lot of the news media lacks common sense -- they should think about what are the consequences of having this information out -- most of them come across as complete idiots to me.
