Does the NASCAR crowd dislikes this year's champion? If so, why?

It bores me to death, so I usually watch Watkins Glen and Sears Point only. Therefore, I don't know much about it, since they hire other guys to drive the cars around (Boris Said, Ron Fellows, real drivers, ...).

I caught a segment in Dave Despain's show (another bore) and it seemed to me the crowd hates this Kurt Bush. Were they really booing him? I couldn't tell from the clip they showed. If that's what happened, why is that, NASCAR fans?

From the 5 min I watched, he seemed like an intelligent, well educated guy. He explained very well how the several events ended up handing the championship to him, and not someone else (car 48?). Isn't Gordon also hated by the hardcore fans? From an outsider's point of view, the only thing I know Gordon & Bush have in common is a decent command of the English language. Do they come from the wrong neck of the woods, or what?

Kurt is hated because he mouths off, has temper tantrums, wrecks people on purpose, and has no repect for any of the other drivers. A lot of people still don't like Gordon just because he had a lot of success so quickly plus he use to be a whinny little bitch just like Kurt. And yes the fans do boo him. I think they have started turning down the mics that pick up the fans anymore when Kurt wins cause you no longer hear anything other then his team when he wins.

Teams bring an EXTRA CAR to road coarse and hire a ringer(road racer) to drive them. They very rarely replace a driver unless that driver has already missed a race and has no shot at the title. Boris Said the real driver was in the last oval race and finished 28th several laps down.

They bring in Extra Cars to qualify not to replace drivers, and the NNC guys almost always do better.

To address your first point about "real" driver being hired to run at The Glen or Infineon Raceway, you may call them "real" drivers, but those guys rarely win on the road courses. It's usually one of the Cup regulars that wins the road course race, so take that however you want it.

As for point # 2, a lot of the wife beater crowd hates anyone who isn't Dale Jr., simply because they're not an Earnhardt. Even though Jr. is a good driver and has a lot of talent, I feel FAR too much attention is paid to him simply because of who his father was to the sport. There are other drivers who are more successful and consistent (Jimmie Johnson, for one) who don't get nearly the media attention and respect I think they deserve.

And as for Kurt Busch, he is a very talented driver. His problem, as stated above, is he has little respect for the veterans of the sport. He is a little too aggressive on the track and does boneheaded things when he should just be patient and go with the flow. Plus he's not your typical "home-grown" driver, from North Carolina or Tennessee, so a lot of the hair-backed good ol' boys don't want anything to do with him.

I think they are two reasons. First is that Kurt is an ass. No one likes his attitude. He just comes off as a slimey weiner. The second is that if NASCAR would have never cooked up this ridiculous "chase for the cup" and used the old scoring, Kurt would have finished 4th, and Jeff Gordon would have won the title. Granted, most NASCAR fans don't like Gordon either, but there would have been less of a problem because he would have won the title like everyone before him, by earning the most points. Kurt actually only earned the fourth most points, but because of the new "chase" won the title.

I've been a Gordon fan since 97... but heh... I wouldve preferred anyone else than Busch... maybe even Martin... this chase thing sucks... they're just manipulating the show.

I guess, not many people in this forum have a clue what it takes to handle a race car, although some like to think they do. I'm one of the few that actually know what it takes. It's hilarious to watch some of the chair-jockeys in here talk about NASCAR drivers not being real drivers because they drive ovals, when 90% of them would sh!t themselves if they ever strapped into a cup car on an oval track.

I edited the post because I realized you and slick were joking.

Seeing how next year is Martin's last full season, I think he's the sentimental favorite. He seems like a really nice guy and I would like for him to have some good luck and pull it off before he retires.

I rarely watch nascar (or any racing for that matter) and I still occasionally watch windtunnel because Dave Despain is cool. Don't knock him.

I'm sure there are many talented guys in each category of the sport, but people are always trying to figure out who is best overall, which is basically impossible. Obviously, anyone who gets a ride in the top league has the necessary talent. There's nothing wrong with bringing 'specialist' drivers for road courses, but it also implies someone in 'Management' does not have full confidence in their regular drivers. Rally teams always bring reinforcements for Sweden and for tarmac events, but I don't think it's the same thing.

I dont think people really like Busch manily because of his bad personality. Also the new points system does not really reflect the whole season so in a way Kurt didnt seem deserving to win. Honestly, in general i think NASCAR fans are biased towrds DEI espeically if you got to Datona....literally the whole standium is a sea of red.

Again the road racers don't replace the regular drivers. The owners bring an extra car and the main reason they do it is the road racer can help with car setups and to give tips to their regular driver.

Something else, several NASCAR drivers compete in other road racing events, such as the 24 hours of Daytona, Sebring, etc., and do very well.

Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt sr and jr, to name a few.
