I just want to know if it can support the Venice core out of the box or if I need a BIOS upgrade.

Currently sitting on an Athlon XP 3200 w/ BFG 6800 Ultra AGP.
Since I don't want to go through the hassle of selling my vid card and getting the PCI-e version, I'm planning on upgrading to the MSI Neo2 plat.

yeah yeah yeah, if I wanted longevity, I should move towards a PCI-e system, but hey, I figure I can ride this current vid card for a few years.

As long as my gf has a friend that works for ATI, I can hold off moving to PCI-e until it's matured a generation or two.

Most of the posts I saw didn't answer my question, since the problems don't seem to be related to the CPU core.

I don't know. Most MSI K8N Neo 2's ship with ver. 1.5 bios, if they been in storage a few months. I think SD and Venice are supported under 1.8 bios. Call/Email your retailer before you purchase! ZZF and Newegg should know what thier MOBOs ship with.

Here's AMD's MOBO support list:
AMD MOBO List
It doesn't have the MSI K8N Neo2 shown as supporting Venice or SD???

Monarch Computers will flash the lastest BIOs on any MOBO you purchase from them for a small fee.

It supports it. If you board does not ship with the latest BIOS, you can start the computer with 1 stick of ram then isntall the rest after flashing the latest.
