Does the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum have a noisy chipset fan?

Slightly noisy to very noisy, it looks like they're a mixed bag. Mine isn't bad. Every now and then I've noticed it making more noise then usual like it's not 100% balanced. I may put some extra 3 in 1 oil on its fan bearing and/or pull the MSI sticker off of the blade hub (it's kind of a thick sticker and not perfectly centered), or if my vid card cooler isn't in the way, swap it for a Zalman NB32J with a 40mm quiet mag-lev fan on top.

All the nforce4's and some of the K8T-890's have fans over the chipsets now. It's going to be hard to avoid them. The fans are small and so they get noisy at high revs. I'd advise you to get this board and use either software or an external fan controller to turn the fan speed way down to make it run quieter. That's what worked for me. It still cools well enough and I can't hear the chipset fan on my nforce3 MSI NEO2 since cranking down the RPMs.

Mine isnt all that noisy. Not something I notice above the overall system noise. And I think my system is pretty quiet. I have heard others having problems with chipset fan noise though. I think they have a few noisey fans running around. Quality control issue more then design

Mine was occasionally making some racket... I took the fan out of the HS, got rid of the thick, off-center MSI sticker, then peeled back the sticker on the underside and applied some fresh 30 weight motor oil to the bearing. That not only stopped the racket, it even spins faster now. It used to run ~6750 RPM, now it runs ~7250.

Not noisey at all...cant belive people even talking about this. I have 3 regular case fans and I have to look at NB fan to see if its even on. You guys must really want SILENT computers

Its not that noisy since it rarely runs on the full 12v. It throttles depending on the temperature.
