Probably the best question I've heard in a month... I have never seen a dead one...

In fact I've never had a microwave with a burned out light- the microwave dies first.

Refridgerators, yes. Microwaves, no.

I think I saw one microwave (very old) that had it's light burned out. Not sure, though, as it was a long time ago.

As a matter of fact, I'm enjoying a microwaved bowl of ramen soup (chicken) which was in darkness as it cooked. My microwave's bulb has been out for months.

Mine only works once in awhile. If I cared, I'd tear it apart and solder what is loose. But I don't care.

Well, considering how little those bulbs get used, I'd say it's pretty rare to have a light bulb go out in your microwave. How often does a light bulb on a lamp go out? Now consider that a lamp gets probably gets considerably more use =p

We should be switching to LEDs. Those are more electricity efficient and don't die as easily or as quickly.

My college roommate's ancient microwave bulb burned out. We experimented with balls of foil to light up the inside, and then I finally got a new bulb to replace the old one.

Yes, just like all light bulbs, they have a limited amount of time for life. The reason why they don't burn out first is becasue the ray gun goes through much more stress than the light bulb does, I'm sure if you replaced the ray gun each time it broke, eventually the light would burn out.
