I'm considering getting the Swiftech MC462-A Rev.1 and I need to know if it's compatible with my Asus A7A266 mainboard.

Does anybody else have this heatsink and mainboard?

Rev 1 fits most motherboard that the original didn't fit. I'm using one on an A7M266 at the moment.

Thanks for the reply.

How are you temperatures with the Swiftech?

I'd really like to know if anybody else has used this heatsink on the A7A266. The layout isn't the same as the A7M266, so you never know...

I don't think it does, if you do a search in this forum, there are 1 or 2 other threads about the switech, and i am pretty sure in one of them, one of the guys said it won't fit that board. if i find it i will link to it.

mikef208,
The original MC462 did not fit, but I am sure that the new one, with a notch in each corner, does.

Peridium,
I'm running at 1.5GHz, and my CPU temperature is 40.9C according to my DigiDoc5, and the case temperature is 26.4C. My old Taisol CGK742092 would only cool the CPU to about 50C at 1.5GHz, and this is with the 7K rpm Delta!

The MC462 is truly in a class of it's own...

Looking at a picture of the CPU area, it seems that the tall black capacitor that is out of line with the others may block the mounting of the CPU. You should measure the distance between the mounting hole there and the capacitor, and see if the MC462 will fit.

Yozza please get your facts striaght before telling him it will work.

As taken right from the switech site

Known incompatibilities (as of June 1st, 2001): Asus A7A266, Gygabyte GA-7DX, Tyan Trinity KTA, FIC AZ11E, this is for the Switech MC462 Rev.1 it will not work on that board wihtout modifications.

Sorry.
I thought that it would fit, especially as the A7A266 is a popular board, and rev 1 was meant to fit almost all Socket A boards. Asus' own A7M266 is ok, so I thought the A7A266 would be too.

I will be more careful in future :)

Darn...can't use the Swiftech...

They ought to make a Rev.2 of this monster heatsink...
