Does the manufacturer of RAM make a difference?

I want to upgrade the memory in my laptop and I see that Outpost.com has a 512mb SODIMM stick for $69. It is manufactured by a company called Premium(?)

Is it better to get some brand name RAM or this Premium RAM would be fine? Anyone have any experience with this brand of ram?

thanks in advance

depends, neither kingston nor premium make any chips. find out who made the actual memory chips, and who made the stick of RAM.

When someone complains of bad memory, I find 9/10 times it's Kingston. This is the one brand I would never consider. If you want cheap, there is Crucial (micron). They have one of the best sites for buying ram as well. www.crucial.com

I have a pair of Kingston HyperXs and they couldn't do the speed they were rated for. Timings were much more relaxed, but I did get them at a good price as a consolation.

I have been happy with my Crucial and Corsair purchases though.

They've also got the "Premium" 1GB PC2700 sodimms for 149, the brand is actualy Legacy Electronics (at least the 1GB modules are and I'm guessing the 512mb ones would be the same brand), I've never heard of them before but it works fine in my M6805 even when overclocked and pased a couple loops of memtest+ and has run Prime95 TT for 8+ hrs now w/out issue. only downside is a 1 year and not a lifetime warranty, but I've found that most memory either works out of the box or fails right away, I think I've had one stick of memory go bad ever and it was in the first week. Anyways hope this helps... :)
