Does the LOTR soundtrack borrow some elements from Holst's Planets: Jupiter?

Was just listening through the planets and about 3 min into Jupiter, it sure as hell sounds alot like LOTR 🙂

I noticed this too when I first heard the LOTR soundtrack.

The choral you hear in Jupiter was originally composed by Holst, and later a poem entitled "I Vow to thee My Country" was set to the Holst melody.

I don't think the excerpts from LOTR were taken from Jupiter, but there are definite similarities.

There's a very high possibility, as Shore had to use a lot of tones and keys that would place them right with some part of the Planets (which is so broad in its sweep)...if you want to hear something really close to The Planets, listen to a CD full of John Williams' stuff. He's one of my favorite soundtrack composers, having done like a quarter of my favorite movies, but he's acknowledged how big of an influence Holst has had on him.

I'm glad Goosemaster's efforts are paying off here.
