hey guys i am trying to reduce the noise being produced from my pc. so i replaced my hsf and got a quiter one. now the fan on my chipset (kt266) is making a wierd random noise and its kinda irritating, i was wondering is it risky if i pull it i mean pull out the power source so it doesnt work, it already has a heat sink, the chipset that is

does it run hot and has to have its own fan?

thanks

yeah, it needs it. At least with the dinky stock sink. If you put a sink like nVidia has on their NForce boards there you could probably go fanless though. Even my KT133A runs too hot without a fan since I put my Alpha 8045 sink on the CPU - instead of air blowing across the chipset a weak draft of air is sucked from nearby (and judging from the dust, more is drawn in high up on the sink than closer to board level). Used a case cooling fan redirected to solve my hotspot without introducing a whiny little fan, but then this chipset ran cooler anyway. (I think)
