Does the Intel 915P chipset perform better than the 865PE chipset?

I just bought a 7800GTX.
I currently have an ASUS P4P800. skt 478, AGP, 865PE
Don't want to spend a fortune after getting the 7800GTX (ouch)
I am considering this board so I can have my PCI-e slot and still keep my 478 CPU.

Does anyone have a problem with what I'm showing here? Bad move? Keep in mind I want to keep my costs at this point to minimum. I can always reuse this board elsewhere if I decide to change my platform to whatever intel has to offer by the time conroe comes out. 2H 2006. So what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

So, 89.00 for an interim mobo that I can use later on is retarded.
Can you explain why? Just saying it's retarded doesn't give me much to go on.
See, what triggered this, was the FEAR demo. The fastest I can get in AGP right now is a 6800Ultra (I already have a 6800GT AGP). So, I have been looking for a 7800GTX which I did a partial trade/cash deal in FSFT forum. So I got the card relatively cheaply with the trades. Not something I could've passed up.

So I needed something faster than the 6800GT for FEAR (among other games) when it/they come(s) out. This isn't a question of whether to stay with AGP or not. This isn't a question of whether or not you think AGP is dead or not. There are numerous threads around here for that. So, no personal opinions please.

So, for 89.00, I get to have my faster video card and STILL keep my current platform (can use my same CPU and memory) and not go 775, just yet.

I figure, if I buy a 775 platform now, I have a feeling that Intel will change the socket again to something else shortly. I would rather get this board and wait for the Conroe platform. I can o/c my P4 if I need to. I have the DDR for it.

Anyone else?

ahhhhhhhh... well, it DOESNT perform any faster, that it doesn't. BUT, you get PCIe, and that's what you're looking for, and if you're geting it with a 7800GTX, well... go for it!

Thanks man. I will order it tomorrow. I think it will do just fine until I'm ready for the "big" platform upgrade. Beyond Presler of course.

you can always overclock, and Albatron mobos are said here and there to do a good job at that, so you can overclock to at least 3.6Ghz, and you're ready to keep your current processor for another year at least.
