Apparently so, because their chairman was ousted simply for backing same-sex marriage: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-pat-brady-gay-marriage-20130507,0,528968.story

I think the Democratic party in IL will continue to have control of both the legislature and governor's office for the foreseeable future... unfortunately. And it's all because the state GOP refuses to take its head out of its ass and wake up.

lol rather or not they back gay marriage really means jack shit on who is going to control IL.

IL is a strong Dem state. IF the rash of Govenors heading to prison hasn't got people to stop voting Dem nothing is going to change that.

I realize that, but the GOP was handed big losses in IL in 2012. If they want to gain any ground back they're gonna have to stop doing idiotic shit like this.

do you live in IL?

you really can't believe how strong the DNC party is here. we MIGHT have another GOP mayor (after ryan maybe not) but we will NEVER have a GOP Chicago Mayor.

though teh farther south you go GOP gets stronger.

It is going to take something MAJOR for the GOP to get a win here. Considering the last Democrat mayors are sitting in jail and we still have a D for a mayor i'm not sure what it is going to take.

Hate to say it, but I agree. It will crumble from the inside before a republcian is voted in. Which sucks, because I love Wrigley Field and the cubs :p

I would say the same for California, but unlike IL there is Silicon Valley (which means it does have batches of intelligent people [Cough*non-liberal*Cough]). In addition, the location attracts people that have money as well. Considering the state of things there, they better hold the fuck on to them considering how much they are in the crapper debt/tax wise.

I know, but the point is that shit like what happened in the OP isn't going to help the state GOP.

A third party with enough funding in Chicago would actually do pretty well. A lot of people I know don't vote because there is no real choice.

Pretty much this.

Losing anything in IL isn't really much of a loss. Its a waste of a state. Doesn't really matter what the GOP does there, it doesn't change anything with regards to the direction the state is headed. There is no state GOP to speak of. Most of its members are complete RINO's who could give a shit about anything south of I-80.

Then why doesn't the Republican party in IL simply disband?

Because there are plenty of republicans still living in IL? Gotta take some of their money to return some false hope. Those R's need something to do at ballot time.

I would move the line up ti I-88 to be honest. hell I will go as far as to say nobody cares about anything except for "Chicago land" area

well to be honest that's kinda ignorant. The GOP has little chance but there are Republicans in the state.

So they should take their money, return false hope, and do stupid shit like oust their chairman for supporting same-sex marriage?

No... they should be where the country is heading: fiscally conservative, socially liberal/libertarian.

It's not ignorant at all. I'm working from the premise that others have raised which is that the GOP has no chance in IL, tacitly saying there's nothing wrong with doing stuff that digs their hole deeper like what they did to the state party chairman.

Of course there are registered Republicans in IL... there's registered Republicans and Democrats in every state. But what good is the state party's organizational apparatus if it has no chance of winning any power and continues to shoot itself in the foot?

you are basing off what you think. Different people have different thoughts. While i may agree with you on same-sex marriage not everyone does.

He did something his base disagreed with. they kicked him out for it. that is fine.

to suggest they disband because the chance of them winning is low is wrong and bullheaded.

ugh.

When it costs your party power by making it even less relevant, no, it's not fine for them to kick him out. It's shooting themselves in the foot.

They might as well disband, if they're not going to wake up and stop doing stuff that costs them elections.

Look, political party organizations in each state exist to raise money to field candidates that can win and expand the party's power in that state. After losing as much as they did in 2012, you'd think they'd stop doing things that put them further behind but I see now why they continue losing in IL: they have apologists like you all.

You love to argue. You love to argue more about things you hate. You love the most to argue about things you have no idea about.

You simply can't figure it out. Elections in IL don't make one bit of difference. One party will forever be in control in IL. The other is simply filling an empty chair.

Move to IL and then you can talk. Until then you have no clue what you are arguing about.

I know the Democratic party is *huge* in IL... but that doesn't mean the GOP should be excused for doing things that put it further behind than they already are or things that keep it irrelevant in IL.

Move to IL and then you can talk. Until then you have no clue what you are arguing about.

You don't live in IL either, so go fuck yourself. I do have a clue and I'll talk about whatever I want to talk about... and I don't care if you have a problem with it, dumbass.

You do a good job of showing you know nothing. Meh.

Actually, I lived there for 10 years up until two years ago. I still own the house that I lived in there. I know exactly what I am talking about. So, please, again, keep showing how little you know. Its starting to get entertaining. Let the butthurt flow through you.

50 miles beyond Chicago, Illinois is a red state.

yeah. but its not enough to over-ride the north-east part of IL.

Sure we may get another GOP IL gov but to be honest that means jack shit for the state. Chicago is where most the funds go to.
