Does the Geforce2 GTS draw more power than a normal Geforce 256 SDR?

I have a Visiontek Geforce 256 SDR card and I have been having trouble running games with it. I was just wondering if anybody knew if the Geforce2 GTS draws more power than my current card. I have a 300W power supply, but suggested that my board might not be supplying enough power to the AGP slot. Anyways, thanks in advance for any responses.

The Geforce2 GTS draws less power and dissipates less heat than the Geforce SDR/DDR (mainly, if not entirely, due to the smaller .18 micron architecture of the GTS as compared to .22 microns for the Geforce). I believe I read on Sharky Extreme or AnandTech that it consumes about half the power of the regular Geforce.

Yeah, the GTS draw less power than the Old SDR/DDR. I think the the power consumption is like 16W/24W and 8W. something like that? And then the MX draw 4W?

rominl, yeah, that's what I read. bmchenry, have you ruled out other causes for the problems? Do you have a VIA board, maybe? What kind of problems are you having?

well, I think if you have a 300W power supply, it should be enough to push a Geforce, even with an athlong system. Do you actually have some problems with the system?

I am running a PII 450 Xeon w/1MB Cache. My motherboard is an ATrend ATC6400 (Intel 440GX Chipset). The system works just fine in normal Windows applications, but when I try to run any 3D accelerated programs, it locks up my computer. I don't have any IRQ conflicts and I have all the latest BIOS/Driver updates. I have tried all the 5.XX detonators and some of the 3.XX detonators and they all do the same thing. I can use a Voodoo3 3000 AGP no problem. But my Geforce 256 SDR locks up everytime. Do you guys have any other ideas? Thanks again for any responses.

May be a problem with AGP. The Voodoo doesn't use most AGP features. Try to disable AGP texturing by reducing the AGP aparture as much as possible. See if that helps.

Otherwise, it might really be the power drain and your specific board. Although I had the same problems (which I never resolved) with a Savage4 card, and that definitely wasn't a power problem. And it worked perfectly on another computer.
