Does the French Foreign Legion still exist? Are they still accepting recruits?

I fantasize from time to time about leaving it all and going somewhere and changing my name etc and starting a new life. Won't do it - I'd miss the kids - but I can't help thinking about it.

I haven't heard about the French Foreign Legion in ages. It used to be a military unit that anyone, anywhere could join, they would accept anyone without asking any questions and then you'd get a new name and identity. Great way to disappear. Supposedly they were great fighters.

Anyone know anything about this?

If I DID have information pertaining to the FFL, I wouldn't be authorized to share it without clearing it with my Freedom Foreign Legion commander.

But the Foreign legion isn't made (well, at least not exclusively) of Frenchmen (hence the "foreign" in the name).

join & leave your b.s. middle class existence behind - it's only 5 years.

I'd miss the kids
who's going to pwn at school: the kid who says "my dad's an accountant" or the kid who says "my dad's in the Foreign Legion?"

You could also seek psychiatric help to face what you're running from. Everybody wants a new identity becasue they hate who they are. It's why we dream of buying a new car. You've seen the ads. WOW I wish that was me. The trouble is, wherever you go is where you are. The trick is to be there.

It's fun to pick on the French sometimes, but don't forget, if it wasn't for them, we might not have won our revolutionary war.

And if it wasn't for us they would have been slaughtered by Hitler.

ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Another dream destroyed - I'm too old for the Legion.

From their website:
between the age of 17 and 40 years old (Parental or legal tutor authorization is required for minors),

I guess that makes me officially a geezer.

But you can still go to the psychiatrist. The Great War takes place within.

It doesn't sound so bad, you get a pension after only 15years. Of course there is the possibility of getting killed... but hey, the French don't seem interested in fighting anyone.

The latter, as long as his father is still alive. :(
