According to 5 Questions about Ebola, answered with infographics, Ebola poses no risk for people living in the USA. The means of transmission is the reason. Probably the worst epidemic in history was the Bubonic plague, which killed off maybe 1/2 of Europe and China around the 14th century. They didn't know it then, but thevirusbacteria was carried by fleas infesting rats, and was easily communicable human to human, a much different story.
