Does the Del 2005FPW support other resolutions below 1680x1050?

Yes, but then your going to have bars on the sides. I would recomend running in widescreen still though, just at 1440x900 or 848x480. If the screen gets interpolated, you can do this thing where the pixels all stay the same size, but you run at a lower resoulution with black on the outsides.

I have two of these monitors, they are spectacular for the price...$507_+ tax now....amazing price....

And even though they look a bit purple from the sides (the LCD technology, alot of Cheaper LCD's do this) it looks awesome straight on, and worth every penny...

I got a 25% off coupon, just been looking for more discounts, ones that I can "stack", though I might be getting too greedy...

Actually, mine stretches games when I run them at lower than 1680x1050, no black bars...

You have to tell the drivers to either monitor scaling or fixed aspect ratio. Fixed aspect ratio will make the black bars.

Yeah and that's why I think the 2001fp might be the better choice for me. I understand you can scale it down to 1280X960 (or 1280X1024) with little to no loss in image quality. Last nite I fooled around with HL 2 at the higher resolutions I would need to play on a 2005fpw and my system just didn't cut it (3 ghz, 6800nu, 1 gig memory). I see all these glowing impressions of the widescreen but if your frames suffer it don't matter how pretty it looks.

Actually with a 1600x1200 panel the next lower resolution that'll look good is 800x600. Everything inbetween will suffer from interpolation artefacts.

Ordered a 2001fp Wednesday and it arrived Friday. Since then I have tried several games and no interpolation effects at 1280X1024. Or, none that are obvious. Problem in judging what is interpolation faults is that when you go from 1280 to 1600 lines of resolution, naturally things are gonna look better. But, really, the 2001fp interpolates very well. BTW, 800X600 looks horrible. I'll try to post some screenies I took in NWN showing the same screen at various resolutions.

Edit: The first link is a NWN screenie shot at 1152X864 (non native, interpolated). The second screenie is 1600X1200 (native). Unfortunately I had to shrink 'em to get them uploaded to a free image server. I wanted to post 1280X1204 but that somehow got corrupted. It looks better than the 1152X864 image.
