Does the Cable Company have greater access than the Phone Company to data travelling their lines ?

Would I be crazy to assume that the Cable companies have less restrictions on the data that they can monitor over their cable lines vs. the data that the phone company can over their phone lines ?

dude you shouldnt be downloading that stuff. you're gonna get a knock on the door from the fbi one of these days. 😛

I'm not sure that it matters too much. Yes, cable is probably easier for someone to tap, but once you are on the internet, what keeps anyone from just watching your IP address?

Im not talking about Govt. access . I imagine "they" can tap any freaking thing they want.

I am more curious about the access that the provider has (i.e. Bellsouth vs. TimeWarner) . It would seem laws have been put in place to protect our rights to privacy over the Telephone against random snooping from the Phone Company....right ? I mean of course they have tha capability, but it IS illegal .... right ?

Is this the same for the Cable company ? Is there any law out there that prohibits them from arbitrarily monitoring ANY data that they send/receive across their cable lines ?

eh, i'm safe from tapping, i flood my line with mountains of porno packets. finding any sensitive information would be a needle in a haystack🙂
