I own an ATI 9700 Pro and am tempted to purchase this Hanns-G 1440 x 900 19 inch widescreen display:

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824254001

Does my video card / drive support 1440 x 900?

Also, what happens when I play non-widescreen games on it?
(games I currently own include:
- Tiger Woods 2004
- Madden 2005
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight
- Crimson Skies
- Lock-On: Modern Air Combat
- Pacific Fighters
- Falcon 4.0: Allied Forces
- Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
- Unreal Tournament 2004
- Battlefield 1942
(want to eventually get Grand Theft Auto and Star Wars Battlefront II)

I think that monitor will stretch the image to fit the screen, though there are some screens which can do an image at a 1:1 ratio or at the same aspect

With the games I listed, would I just choose a game resolution of say 1024 x 768 and then the monitor would then stretch the game via hardware inside the monitor itself?

Yes, the 9700pro does support 1440x900, I've connected the one in my HTPC to my 1440x900 LCD several times. As for stretching, yea either make the game run in widescreen, or find a way to turn off your monitors stretching. I can do this on my laptop using the ATI control panel, but I can't on my desktop due to using the analog connection.

My viewsonic 19" wide auto stretches all resolutions so I am guessing that one does aswell. BTW most all video cards in the past 3-4 years(or longer) should support 1440x900 with a driver update.

Is there some sort of switch or menu on the monitor to do that?

Or does it do that with no option to turn it off?

You need to enable "use centered timings". However to do that you are going to need the 6.7 Cats.

How does Cat 6.7 compare to Cat 6.2 in terms of stability (main concern since I've also got an ATI HDTV Wonder installed) and performance?

And if I install Cat 6.7 with the Catalyst Control Center, is this "use centered timings" an option I can select or is it automatic and non-defeatable?

EDIT: can anyone also comment on how 1280 x 1024 or 1024 x 768 game resolutions look centered on a 1440 x 900 screen? (screen shots would be great, too :))
