Does the amount of ram effect centrino performance?

My t41 should be here on friday and im looking at upgrading the 256mb included to 1gb. What, if any, effect do you think it will have on my battery life?

Also, if i swap out the Intel 2100 (802.11b) for the Intel 2200 (802.11g), will it still be considered centrino? How will battery life fare with that as well?

The intel 2200 is part of the centrino chip set.

I don't know about Ram...but it would probably help since the HD would not spin as much for the swap file.


I just got myself a centrino, a dell inspiron 600m. I'm eager to test it out this week.

Is that intel mini pci wifi that vital to call it a centrino? I am using a cheaper 802.11b pcmcia, so I really can't call my laptop a centrino.

Because there will be less disk access, you'll probably have a slight increase in battery life with 1GB. (I don't know if it will be noticeable)

As long as the wireless is an Intel PRO/Wireless adapter your laptop will still be a Centrino. There are three PRO/Wireless cards, the 2200BG is one of them. While running in 'b' mode I doubt there will be any effect on battery life, but there might be a difference in 'g' mode.

There is nothing special with Centrino, it's just an Intel marketing term. To be a Centrino laptop, 3 things are needed: a Pentium M processor, an 855 chipset, and an Intel PRO/Wireless network adapter.

just turn off wifi if you are not usin it. Wifi really drains your battery

Most of the newer thinkpads automatically turn off the WiFi when not in use.
