Title says it all, I know anything above it does, just not sure about this one. Thanks.

Only the 110 watt Toledo cores come with the heatpipe cooler. You can buy them pretty cheap, though. And most of the used ones either haven't been used at all, or have been used for a very short time.

4 Heatpipe Review

What I want to know, is why that review claims that the Opteron 165 comes with the 4-pipe cooler in retail as early as January, yet what actually came with my Opteron 170 in November was a 2-pipe cooler? I have a very recent stepping, so it obviously wasn't produced before the changeover. Apparently they changed back.

I have an Opteron 165 with 4 heat pipes. However, it has a different layout than the one in the above review. It has two pipes on each side(2X2) that go across the cooler. Instead of the 4 pipes going from one side to the other like in the review.

Maybe ADM is shipping another variation of their coolers.

That may be the case.... I think you're right, the pipes are just routed differently. It doesn't look like the one in the review in any case, the offset is different, and the fan is "sunk in" on this one where it sits on top on the one in the review.... I'd like to see a review of the current form of the cooler - I wonder if it is any better or worse?

None of the AM2 4200+ I build at work had a Hybrid or Heatpipe cooler. They've all been Aluminum. But the Aluminum does keep it surprisingly cool. Should even be ok for some ocing.

My opty 165 came with the older style cooler I guess (2 heatpipes on each side). Pretty sure its only a 80mm fan as well. Oh well. Still clocks like 900 bats out of hell :) 4 weeks old, mwave btw.

The ones that came with the 180 had 4 heatpipes on one side only, just the stub ends were visable on the other end.

The 80mm fan was sitting on top screwed in. I removed that fan and added an 80-120mm adapter and put on some Global Win 120mm fans. Adapter and Fan is less than $10 and made a huge diffeerence in cooling and especially sound (quiet).

AMD must have contraced out to have the Heatsinks made and when one batch was done, they moved on to a new design
