Does the 2MB cache on HDD make much difference,

well it's sorta hard to say.

You couldn't really fine a 7200rpm 15-20gig/platter drive with a 128kB buffer to compare to.

But I would say it helps some.

Do all, say IBM GXP60's have the cache. Sometimes it is advertised on one or two of the drives, but not on all of them.

MAybe I should go and build lego instead.

Cheers

storagereview.com did a comparison a while back between 512kb cache and 2MB'ers.. right when they had just come out. I think it was storage review... the conclusion seemed like there was a minimal difference. Doesn't seem to be much of an issue now cause just about everyhting is 2MB.
