An xp2600+ should be 333 mhz fsb.. I'm not sure if there really should be ones with 266.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong of course ;)

the price deosnt matter, since im not paying for it. im getting it from someone who owe'something. he said i could get any amd processor up to 2600+. so naturally i chose the 2600+ thinking that it would overclock better than any others. and just be better than the others overall.

Thanx

There are 2 versions of the XP2600+

The chips have the specs stamped on the core.

If I remember correctly the C type is 266, and the D type is 333.

Trying to get those higher FSB's on the older chips require more than just a chip that can handle the FSB...

Your ENTIRE system must handle the FSB.
(unless you have a locking feature on your MB)
(not to mention the KNOWLEDGE to do it right and the proper components to run 333 or above)

If you DONT want to overclock and want a faster pc ...

Go with the 333 version ... it has more bandwidth, But dont get it if your system isnt 333.

make sure you have pc2700 ram as well...it wont do u any good to have pc2100 (133mhz) and have a 333fsb cpu...

also make sure the mobo supports 333mhz fsb

yes ... you should do good.

You need to make a decision thou ... A faster system or a faster chip.

The 333 version seems to run a higher FSB (a lower multiplier on the chip)
While ,...

The 266 version seems to allow a higher clock (higher multiplier)

Of course ... all of this is dependent on the CPU you receive (luck of the draw) ... and the memory quality you get . ($$$)

good luck ,,, keep us postd when you done :)

a higher fsb with lower mult is preferred to a lower fsb and higher mult in the world of ocing by most

but when the fsb reaches the limit, hte only thing left is to jack up the mult....this should be the last step imo
