Does temping to get a job work?

Well I'm just wondering cuz I'll be moving in a few weeks back to Arizona...and since the IT job market still blows, does temping actually find you something w/ a salary or at least a sustainable wage?

Temping is better than your other alternatives which are better than nothing. You can probably make $8-$10 an hour depending on your skills.

thx...so sad...people shoulda told us that a degree really doesn't mean s!it in the real world

haha and everybody did tell you that but the educators 😛

Degrees are important. I'm not temping, I'm halfway done with a bachelors and working in my field (computer science). But if the market in your area is bad for that, then temping is what you've got. Like I said, it's better than nothing.

Yes you get your foot in the door and see if you like the company.

It also gives the company a chance to see if they like you.

I work for a friend of the family on the side for 10/hr, I am just saving money to pay some of the loans off and not rushing into things since it is the summer!

Yes it does suck. I got a BS in MIS a year ago and it has been really slim pickings. So the way I see it is...go try to find a job in a bigger town or whatnot, get an MBA just cuz...or jump to another field which includes going back to school. Decisions, decisions...

After I left University of Florida, I took a temp job to just take up time until I decided if I were going to go to school for Comp Sci or finish Pharmacy.

In 1994-5 I got $10/hr for a simple job of imaging Mortgage documents, which as decent money then. Before I even finished the assignment they moved me to the collateral vault which I ended up taking over...I then kept getting bumps here and there and ended up in a few departments over the 4.5 years I ended up working there.

So it can happen if you are a good worker and what they are looking for.
