does spybot/adaware PREVENT spyware?

I searched but didn't see a quick answer on this...can either of these spyware programs prevent the stuff from being put on in the first place? Sort of like an antivirus that runs in the background. I do some tech support for a local library and it seems more and more lately the public users are finding every site under the sun that loads adult and casino and god knows what else crap onto it. As it is now, I routinely have to go and uninstall whatever crap they've put on, and haven't found a reliable way to keep people from doing it. They're running a mix of NT and win98, and I've pumped up the security settings, etc., but there still seems to be these ones that get through. Thanks!

No. Users prevent spyware from getting installed. This software merely detects spyware presence once it is already there. Norton Antivirus and other antiviruses may prevent certain backdoors and trojans before they are even installed.

just iunstall spybot and adaware and have them run on each PC automaticly at a time when the library is closed then jsut delete the stuff in the morning, not too hard and easy way to check every day

The latest version of SpyBot has an Immunize button. I don't know for sure, but that might be to prevent spyware adware from being able to get into your system. I've been a little hesitant to
use it until I can find some more information on exactly what it does, and how to undo it if you
block something that you want.
