Does something like this exist (Basement work bench)?

Greetings,

I have an old wood work bench that I would like to hang on my wall in my basement. I was planning on using one of these to mount it against my wall and that's it. But, the maximum length I've been able to find for one of those brackets is 16", and my work bench is 36" deep (would hang off another 20").

I made a drawing of what I think I need to have happen to make my bench collapsible but I'm having difficulty trying to find the piece / pieces to make this work. Any thoughts? I'm planning on putting a few 100 lbs on the bench when it is unfolded, so I'm not sure about the requirements for sturdiness of the "folding" metal.

You could put these on two front legs that would pivot from the front and then lock into place when the bench is level. Be a lot strong as well depending on what you used as legs. Could just use 1X1" or get fancy. Maybe connect the two for even more stability.

And is it just me or I haven't seen that avatar on for a while or maybe its just me?

Edit to add picture and link of hinges

+1 for the above. Had a similar table and we just hinged it at the wall and it would fold up all nice and tidy!

I think Thebobo's idea is more sound for several hundred pounds. If the wall is masonry you can use simple hinges on the back. If the wall is cinder block, consider adding drop down legs in back as well to support the load.

The wall is a conventional wall (half unfinished basement). So I would mount the desk to the studs in the wall. I really dig the leg supports! That just might work. I wasn't too keen on not having leg supports so that makes it easier.

If I use those in that configuration, I think the leg height would have to be the same as the width of the table, no? (When the legs are folded inward, they'd point towards the ceiling if I'm not mistaken. If there is a hinge there, the legs would get in the way? And the 1x1 means that the mount would have to extend at least that far against the wall. Correct me if my train of though is incorrect).

I don't post often anymore, hence the avatar disappearance. I mainly just lurk now :p

If you have the legs fold along the front edge (and back edge for four legs) of the table then you just need to make sure that the table is at least twice the length of the legs plus room for mounting the leg hinges.

Do like everyone else and buy some workout equipment in January, then use that as the "work bench" and a place to hang tools. :D

My weight bench has probably seen saw dust more often than sweat. lol.

Rather than that accordion-looking attachment to the wall, I suggest you think about door or gate hinges that would allow you to swing the work surface up against the wall when not in use (I might even use a gate lock to hold it up against the wall). And of course, the bobo's fold-down legs...

Looks like the folding table leg in every Winnebago I’ve ever owned...they work surprisingly well.

Watch the second half of this video, first one she tries to make all complicated then she gets smart and makes a simple folding table. @ 3:30

I've used a ledger board on the walls and just simple door hinges to attach a table top to the ledger. I never used the Bobo legs though.
