I'm confused. I'm lookin to build a new (budget/mid-range) system and I'm looking at the A64 2800+ based on the newcastle core. I read that the 939-pin newcastles along with the on-die memory controller supports Dual-Channel DDR, but what about the 754-pin newcastles??

I saw a benchmark showing a 754-pin A64 2800+ configured in single-channel memory mode, which confused me even more. I thought the newcastles support dual-channel? Only in 939? Or in 754 too? Help!

Oh yeah, and should I get a Nvidia nForce3 250GB mobo or a VIA K8T800 or K8T800Pro? I'm just looking for a good system with good potential for future upgrades... Maybe a 3700+ ~2 years from now =)

Single channel for socket 754. HOWEVER the Athlon64 does not benefit much from that, as it has an on-doe memory controller, so the extra boost is minimal, unlike the P4, and to a much smaller degree, the AthlonXP

Not a single socket 754 CPU will ever have dual channel memory, it's physically impossible because it doesn't have the extra pins for the extra 64-bit memory bus.
