Does socket 1151 require anything special to mount 1150/1155/1156 coolers?

Considering the distance between the mounting holes has not changed for the last 4 sockets, it would be logical to think that any cooler that fits 1150/1155/1156 should work just fine, right?

However, I remember reading in the Skylake reviews that the height of the whole package has changed, which would mean that an older cooler might not make contact properly with the heat-spreader. Is this so? Does it need washers? Anyone has any experience with this?

Follow-up question: If the heat-spreader is thicker then that means the TIM under it is also applied in a thicker layer. Does this mean Skylake requires a better cooling solution than previous generations to be kept at the same temperature?

It should fit since the mounting holes are the same and according to the AT article, it says that the height is the same because the heatspreader is thicker.

OK, thanks for the info guys.

I just moved from 1156 to 1151, and the same cooler fits on both.

As for the second question, I de-lided the processor the day I got it.
I can't comment on temperature differences because I never tested the original temperatures.
The layer of TIM did not seem to be overly thick, but there was definitely a complete separation between the die and IHS.
