do bear with me on the title.

this will be an eyefinity setup with 290x x4.

wondering if 30" is necessary or 27" is big enough.
all 3 monitors will be on a desk with viewing distance 20"-24" away.

only experience is 20" (171 in2) to 23" (226 in2). although the improvement was enough to notice. it was not a deal breaker. own both in this size and are in the same room for direct comparison.

so those of you that have upgraded from say from: 23" (226 in2) to 27" (312 in2) or to 30" (399 in2).
please share your experience and impression in the increase of screen real estate (especially for gaming - BF4 and SC2).

The reason for TVs they say that for a particular seating distance you need a certain size of TV is so that it can fill a certain arc of your horizontal visual field.

With your triple monitor setup that is covered without any doubt. IMHO the more important figure is the height of the setup. How many inches of height does each setup bring?

Only you can use a tape measure and perhaps estimate with the use of cardboard or paper which vertical screen height you'd be happy with. I don't think anyone else can tell you what would make you happy in that realm as it's a personal choice.

1st off I've never tried it yet. My thoughts would be size would matter unless you sacrifice quality for size. I think I'd rather have quality of image over the overall image size....Of course if money is no object then it's a different story.

2nd thought....Staring at my single 27" display I'd think 3x27" would be pretty impressive. 3x30" would probably be overkill for me at least.

that is an excellent observation.

due to this being an eyefinity setup. horizontal viewing plane is moot.
as for the vertical viewing plane. the difference between 30" and 27". that is 2.5"

taking into consideration the smaller pixel density of the 27" plus the 300% increase in cost for the 30". 27" is looking very positive.

thanks for that reality check.

with that info. perhaps a consideration for 16:10 monitor is warranted. even a 4:3 monitor would not be bad.

Remembering Karlitos' thread and the issues he had running 3x27, I would recommend getting native DP and not using a dp->dvi adapter. Or at least one having native DP if you can get matching DVI only monitors for the other two screens. No dongles though! And I would assume 27's are perfectly fine and will save you a lot of money.
